The circulation on this book is not strong at the library. However, there was a movie made from the book. The title, It Ends With Us, is a wonderful title. It explains the book in great detail and it keeps us guessing all the way through. This book is written by, Colleen Hoover. She is a New York Times bestselling author.
The main character is Lily Bloom who lives in Boston, but is in Maine to attend her father’s funeral. When Lily gets back home, she is sitting on a rooftop of an apartment building when she is visited by Ryle Kincaid who she does not know. He is a neurosurgeon. Her first meeting is one in which he exhibits physical emotion, because he kicks a chair. Their visit does not last long, because he gets a call for emergency surgery.
Lily always wanted to open a flower shop and does this and hires Alysa to work with her not knowing that her brother is Ryle Kincaid. They become close friends and she eventually meets Ryle when he is visiting his sister at the flower shop.
At Alysa’s birthday party, Ryle confesses to Lily that he is infatuated with her, but that is all. Lily wants a relationship, but Ryle wants casual sex. They eventually become intertwined.
While having lunch with her mother, Jenny, at a restaurant where she meets Ryle, she realizes her old boyfriend, Atlas, who she helped when he was homeless is the head chef and owner of the restaurant.
A lot of flashbacks show us that Jenny had been abused by her husband and Lily lived as a child with this. Lily falls in love with Atlas when they were youong. Her Dad finds out they are together and beats Atlas so much that he ends up in the hospital. He then leaves for the Marines and they did not see each other for many years.
One morning Ryle burns his hands in Lily’s apartment while cooking breakfast. While Lily is trying to help him, he becomes abusive. Ryle really needs his hands for surgery. Atlas notices Lily’s injury and warns her about Ryle. The story has many turns involving Ryle and Atlas and the story holds out interest until the end is realized.
One quote out of a few is “Steampunk” pg60. What this is: is the process used at a florist shop. Lily explains to Alysa how she makes an arrangement. “I use florist dip dye to turn some white roses a deep purple. Then I decorated the stems with different steampunk elements, like tiny metal washers & gears, and even super-glue a small clock to the brown leather strap that’s holding the bouquet together. It’s a trend. Kind of a subgenre of fiction, but it’s catching on in other areas–art, music, now flowers”.
As mentioned before, this book was made into a movie staring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Justin Baldoni is also a producer of the show. These two actors are in a legal dispute which was highly published.
I give this book and movie a rating of five. Five being extremely good. It is very entertaining for a love story.
