A young man and coming back as a senior, he had more to say in his music. When Yusuf had little to say, he left the entertainment world to work with charities. He did not want much from the world and was always giving back. He has met many a celebrity and worked with his family and friends to make a difference. Yusuf/Cat Stevens has written a book, :On The Road To Find Out. Something most of his fans never new was that he lived in England.
Yusuf found his religion which was contrary to the United States. He grew up a strict Catholic in England and tried different things before becoming a muslin. He never lived in Iraq, but visited when asked.
In his youth as the title picture shows, he tried Cuban-heeled pointed shoes called, “Winklepeckers,” and tight, “drain pipe trousers’. He started a gang like West Side Story. His gang was named the “Belts”. The second gang was named “Greek gang” and it was a protection racket which crumbled one day. After the gangs didn’t work out came a three man band which made Cat Stevens realize, he would be better off on his own. As he became famous, he sang about everything he had to say and it became harder for him to come up with songs, so he put his efforts into religion. He married into his Muslim religion, but spent his later career working for charities he started and started a Muslim school with his earnings from the entertainment world. There was not a Muslim school for his children to go to in England. What he liked about the Muslim religion was that they had no statues. A happy moment for him was when King Charles gave a grant to his school and visited it.
At his old age, the second picture, he returned to music because he had a lot to say again. He lived a life of a nice person and was far apart from the wars that were brewing. His book is 554 pages.
For those of us who still carry on a relationship with the older members of society and care about the entertainment world, his book is very informative about his opinions and life story.
